The Beautiful Patterns of Andie Mayr

Characterised by beautifully crafted patterns, the work on Munich-based artist Andie Mayr is something to behold. We got to dive deep into Mayr’s journey of how she became such a talented creative, along with getting hold of some fantastic photographs of her works.

Her brand name “regnitzflimmern” is derived from the mixing of her two favourite cities, her hometown Bamberg and native town Munich. “Regnitz” is the name of the river through Bamberg. “Flimmern” means glimmer and shimmer and glisten. The Munich saying “Isarflimmern”, meaning the twinkling of the Munich river Isar, expresses not only just shimmering water but also somehow a relaxing and inspiring way of life Mayr tells us.

In terms of her work, Mayr is a self-taught artist who began her artistic adventure through watercolours, then acrylic, mixed media and finally came to collages, which have been the main theme in her latest exhibition in the cultural centre Gasteig in Munich. ?In addition, art journaling and mail art are both passions of hers – in nearly every piece of work, you can find an incorporated hand-carved stamp or lino print.

Now she spends her days experimenting with a variety of printing techniques, creating her own, unique motifs, carving rubbers, experimenting with drypoint and lino cutting which then transform into her beautiful pieces of work.
