A Chamber of Care: Wen Ching Yiu’s Solo Exhibition at Yrellag Gallery

posted by POP Members July 22, 2026

Hong Kong-based visual artist and graphic designer Wen Ching Yiu, Krystine, presents A Chamber of Wonders at Yrellag Gallery, a solo exhibition using mono screen printing, collage, typography and collaborative game design to reconstruct memory, belonging and the imaginary world through the lens of toys.

A cabinet of curiosities was traditionally a place for rare specimens, a catalogue of the world’s strange and wonderful things arranged for examination. Wen Ching Yiu’s solo exhibition reimagined that premise entirely. A Chamber of Wonders, which ran at Yrellag Gallery in Hong Kong from 14 June to 5 July 2026, treated the cabinet not as an encyclopedic container for specimens but as a chamber of care.

The starting point was toys: objects that witness stories, guard spirits and help us retain a sense of self. Drawing from personal memories and the imaginary worlds that daily life generates and then abandons, the exhibition used prints, objects and game design to reconstruct memory fragments and preserve new narratives for things that have been set aside. Daydreaming, as the curatorial statement put it, is an oasis: a way to settle emotions and envisage a future. The journey through the exhibition asked visitors what it means to belong somewhere, and where the true essence of home actually resides.

The print work spans mono screen printing and layered screen printing across multiple series. The Wanderlust Travel is a set of nine mono and mixed screen prints, each 60 by 44 centimetres, made in an edition of one. The Whimsical Companions is a series of twelve screen prints on paper in an edition of five. Home Sweet Home is a 30 by 30 centimetre mixed screen print, also edition of one. Alongside these, The Wanderlust Travel: The Blieverse brings the exhibition into interactive form as a game designed and developed by Frankie Kong Fai Chan, with artistic direction and UI design by Wen, displayed on an iPad mounted on the wall. The collaboration with game designer Chan and editor Minnie Wen extended the exhibition’s themes of play and imagination into a format that could be entered and explored rather than simply observed.
