Native New Yorker, Kate Segal is based in Manhattan, New York City. She is a self-taught visual artist, textile designer, and illustrator, who also has a doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Her art incorporates uplifting and bold colours, and is embedded with themes of nature, spirituality, and the human condition, with an emphasis on the female experience. Kate uses digital methods to create artwork, illustrations, textile designs, wallpaper, gift wrap, and greeting cards.

Kate spent her childhood going to New York City museums such as MoMA, The Guggenheim, and The Whitney museums on rainy days where she got lost in the art. The artist became inspired by abstract and contemporary artists such as Henri Matisse, Hilma af Klint, and David Hockney. In addition to artists in museums, Kate’s maternal grandmother was an illustrator for women’s fashion ads in the New York Times in the 1960s, and always wore Marimekko skirts and dresses. As a child, she loved the bright and bold patterns on the fabric of her grandmother’s clothes. These patterns continue to inspire her work today as she channels her Grandmother’s art and fashion oriented spirit in many aspects of her life.

Kate’s life work fully integrates art and psychology. In addition to her artwork, she uses her creative and intuitive abilities to help people explore themselves, develop self-acceptance, and self-love. While in graduate school she commuted several hours per day using the New York City subway and bus system, and produced many of her art pieces digitally while commuting. Her joyful art is created with the intention to bring happiness and self-reflection to its viewers.
