Creator of joyful and colour-rich illustrations, Melissa Donne, recently brought her characteristic style to a collection for Tesco Paperchase. The range, released in Spring 2025 for Paperchase’s Mother’s Day range included stationery, gifts, and greetings cards. “Paperchase has always been one of my favourite brands so when it appeared in Tesco stores I was so excited. To design a range for them is a dream come true,” comments Melissa.

At the core of the collection, was collaboration. Melissa states; “At the start of the project it was clear that my style would be central to the range and so I got the chance to create work which felt so like me!” She injected her signature love of colour, and together with their team they came up with a beautiful, dreamy, and ethereal colour palette, perfect for Mother’s Day. “I knew I always wanted a pop of neon pink so was delighted to see how vibrant this came out! It really adds something bold to the collection with pieces that are elegant but still pack a punch and aim to spread lots of joy,” says the designer.

Melissa began her design process by creating a number of rough sketches based on the brief: a strong floral theme with a motif that is not directly floral. She responded with a collection of surface patterns, illustrations, abstract florals, a still life, and a bird, with details including stars which have been recreated in beautiful gold foil. Her designs began with a colour palette which included a mix of deep greens for the leaves and delicate colours for the florals. The addition of a neon spot colour really makes the designs pop. Melissa describes; “When I started to add colour everything began to come together and we started to visualise how the end products may begin to look. The Art Director then worked her magic to design a huge range of products featuring my artwork. When I received the samples I was blown away!”
Her favourite pieces in the collection? “The gift bags with scalloped details and the mug and coaster set which features a wavy handle as seen in one of the illustrations in the range.”

Every piece of artwork she created has inspired intriguing and unique details within the collection; sticky notes in the shape of an orange, floral motifs on pages of a planner, and gift bag tags featuring the bird illustration.
