Printed Festival 2025 | Viva La Print

posted by POP Members June 14, 2025

Printed Festival is returning for its third edition to Chapter Arts Centre on the 28th-29th June 2025. A fun, free-entry, family-friendly weekend celebrating all things print, this year’s theme is Viva La Print!

Printed Festival debuted in the summer of 2023, orchestrated by Tom Whitehead (The Printhaus, Ed & Flo) and Aidan Saunders (Print Wagon, Prints of Hay). Their dream was to create a community-based event to celebrate printmaking in all its many forms, resulting in a fulfilling experience for seasoned printmakers, students, and newcomers alike.

“We’re passionate about building on this incredible momentum we’ve got going. We’re creating this fantastic space where artists, organisations, and educators can all come together, share their genius, and inspire each other. It’s going to be such an amazing opportunity for everyone to collaborate, learn, and really dive into the world of printmaking in Wales.”

Inclusivity and accessibility are at the core of Printed Festival. The festival provides the chance for printmakers to showcase, sell, and demonstrate their work. Importantly, they also offer students the opportunity to sell their work for what is sometimes the first time, allowing them to gain experience by being instrumental in the running of the festival. Attendees of all ages get to experience printmaking for themselves, inspiring creativity and new hobbies. The Printed Festival mission is simple but extensive: to build on the existing print culture in South Wales, and make the art form accessible to the masses.

The festival has branched out over the last few years, involving numerous organisations and studios. This year, the line-up includes: Swansea Print Workshop, Aberystwyth Printmakers, Dungarees & Squeegees, Red Shoe Poster Archive, and Cardiff Met University – Textiles. Canton, the area of Cardiff where the festival takes place, is already a print hub in its own right. The following neighbouring organisations will also feature: Cardiff Print Workshop, The Amplifier Press, Art Market Cardiff, ArtHole, Oriel Canfas, The Printhaus, Prints of Hay, and Cardiff Illustration Club.

The weekend will kick off on Friday 27th June, with Creative Mornings Cardiff hosting a print talk and Q&A with two surprise guest speakers. The breakfast lecture series for creative types will be an exciting addition to the festival, bringing a fresh perspective for attendees to benefit from.

In the lead-up to the festival, print workshops will also take place across the city, led by several creative practitioners and organisations. The weekend itself will include a huge array of print stalls, have-a-go activities, a Printed Festival merch store, exhibitions, and food and drink. To help attendees find their way around and know what’s on, a print publication featuring a map, interviews and information on featured artists and studios will be released.

With Mickey Cranston on the branding, Angharad Jones of MELA on the brand new website, and The Printhaus cohort and wider Cardiff creative community working behind the scenes to bring it all together, Printed Festival: Viva La Print! (supported by the Arts Council of Wales and Chapter Arts Centre) promises to be a weekend you won’t want to miss!
