Argentine-Chilean artist and RCA graduate Elisa Dublanc creates a series of hard ground etchings that explore encounter with nature through mark-making, meditation and the rhythms of transformation, printed in limited editions of 28 across studios in London and Santiago.
Elisa Dublanc has been moved by the botanical world for as long as she can remember. “The botanical world moves me since I have memories,” she says. It is not a recent interest or a chosen subject matter. It is the place her attention has always returned to, and (trans)formation is the series that gives it form.
The ten etchings made between 2024 and the present are compositions on hard ground, built through mark-making as a kind of meditation: on connection, freedom, vulnerability, belonging, metabolism and the other rhythms of transformation that govern the natural world and our place within it. “I’m interested in exploring how we can reconnect with nature,” Dublanc says. The work does not depict plants so much as enact a quality of attention toward them. The marks carry the encounter rather than the image.
Dublanc completed her MA in Print at the Royal College of Art in 2023 to 2024, receiving the Printmakers Council Sheila Sloss Award. The series has since been exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, The Handbag Factory, The Muse and The Footprint Gallery. Her work has also been selected for the CSR Travers Smith Art Programme and a group exhibition curated by Dickson Russell Art Management.
Each etching is printed by Dublanc herself in studios in London and Santiago, Chile, in a limited edition of 28. The series continues.
