POPUP PRESS! is a unique and inspiring celebration of print culture, showcasing both local graphic artists and international independent publishers bringing the practice of print to a wider audience within Hong Kong. With a custom designed mobile gallery and exhibition space, they transform Hong Kongs bustling cityscapes into creative areas where the general public can participate in different print workshops and meet the artists.
Their latest event took place outdoors in Chater Garden, out of the five series of POP UP PRESS! events – the second Pop Up Press #2? event collaborated with local Hong Kong illustrator and artist Yeung Hok Tak. His latest exhibition featured a series of screen prints from Tak’s three month artist residency at HKOP (Hong Kong Open Printshop) to promote his new book, Psychic Spring Dreams. With a variety of outdoor print workshops in lithography and screen printing, there was also a pop-up bookstore from Nobrow Press introducing a beautiful range of illustrated books. POPUP PRESS demonstrates an inspiring example of Hong Kongs new emerging creative industry for contemporary print design.
