LCC DGC Show

posted by Lo Parkin June 25, 2013

I may be biased, but I really feel the Design for Graphic Communication course at LCC is in a league of it’s own, with heavy focus ‘practically exploring the liminal space between education and creative industry practice’ students are encouraged to focus on design research methods and the whole design process – not just the outcome introducing ‘design thinkers’ to the industry as they graduate. Described by It’s Nice That as a ‘digital calendar of graphic design treats’ the LCC DGC Degree show didn’t disappoint, thanks to the organisation of Rebecca Watson and a beautiful variety of exhibited work from some very talented students.

Eve Izakk

I am in love with Eve Izakk’s ‘Recycled Workspace’ not only is it beautiful to look at but it demonstrates the designers skill, research and practical skills involving experimentation and the practice of pre-literate crafts.
Keep an eye on Eve, she’s definitely one to watch!

“Turned on” is an eccentric and gorgeous publication by Jessica Daughters. Explored through photography, the 16 page colour newspaper focuses on the lights and neon sinage of Soho giving the seedy signage a new visual context as they are communicated as beautiful images/typography.

Andras Csuka

Out of the vast range of publications it was Andras Cuska’s dope collaborative publication (with David Oku) ‘La Haine’ that really caught my eye. The monochrome publication is based on the film and bursts with fresh illustrated type and dark photography.

Marina Lobão

Marina Lobão’s ‘Obsession’ prints (printed by Hato press) are inspired by her personal obsession over Ancient Egypt and are BEAUTIFUL!

Alex Beaumont

I clocked Alex Beaumont’s nice Tees in the Exhibition shop (go grab one if you can!) hoping to see more of this I checked him out online where I found his fantastic animations using shape and pattern based on frequencies to explore the visualization of the relationship between written language & sound/vibration.
