The latest print release from Nadia Resta, an Italy-based linocut artist, is Backstabber. Nadia describes the print as a “celebration of disillusion”. She tells us; “In a society were everybody wants to appear always happy, brilliant, satisfied at any cost, I celebrate and cherish the sadness, the wounds, represented by the snake.”
The gold ink on tan paper was Nadia’s first experiment with printing with a lower colour contrast. She made the snake and the frame on two different linocut pieces that fitted together, inking them each with different colours.
Nadia first started drawing at the age of 14. Inspired by the fantasy characters of D&D she spent many afternoons drawing wizards, sorceresses, and druids with a simple graphite pencil. She discovered linocut printing around two years ago, and has been hooked on the hand printing process ever since.
Nadia has a BA in Oriental Languages and Cultures, and her life experiences spent in Asia have left a deep impression on her aesthetic. Today, she is working on turning her printmaking hobby into a small business run from her home in Italy.
