The idea of travel, seeing new places, and endlessly exploring has been a big part of London-based artist and illustrator Caroline Tomlinson’s story. But in the last year or so, the importance and need ‘to belong’ has been an area of exploration within both her life and now her work. “Rather than looking to new destinations for inspiration, the standing still and pausing revealed what is truly important in life. And where the magic really lies,” says the artist. She continues; “Pieces of your life coming together. People coming together. The true sense of finding your place in a world of your own making, that is magic.”
The Magic of Belonging, is a two colour silkscreen print. Each of the edition is hand finished with ink adding the third colour, which is painted. Thus, each edition in the series is one-of-a-kind, just like ourselves, our stories, and our relationships. This is the first time Caroline has explored multiple figures within a print and the interconnection for bodies, or as she describes; “a new area of exploration – figures coming together”.
The piece was created to answer an open call brief to all artists from Print Club London to “Find the Magic”. The collection of prints was curated to provide a sense of escape and to celebrate the magic of the everyday, which we all need now more than ever.
The Magic of Belonging: Edition of 25 A2 – 420 x 594mm. Two colour print with each print hand finished.
