As a printmaker based in Brooklyn, Couleur Aube, aka Marion Decroocq, is constantly inspired by the world around her. Marion’s lino prints are a reflection of her passion for nature and the vibrant cities she has called home, including Hong Kong and New York.
Marion works on a variety of projects, ranging from small prints perfect for framing, to larger pieces and commissions. Each print is unique and inspired by her surroundings; whether it’s a bustling city street or a serene natural landscape. One thing that sets her work apart is her love for incorporating foliage and flowers into even the most urban of prints, adding a touch of nature to the concrete jungle.
Her working process starts with an idea or inspiration, which she sketches out on paper. From there, Marion transfers the design to a linoleum block and begins the intricate process of carving out the design. “It’s a labour-intensive process, but one that I love for the way it allows me to bring my visions to life,” says the printmaker.
Marion’s inspirations come from many places, but most often from the natural world. Living in Hong Kong for two years gave her a deep appreciation for the beauty of the urban jungle, and since moving to New York, she has been fascinated by the way nature finds its way into even the most unexpected corners of the city. Her love for the environment is also a driving force behind her work, and Marion is always looking for ways to incorporate sustainable practices into her art.
Looking to the future, her hopes and plans for her practice are simple: “to continue to grow and evolve as an artist. I want to explore new techniques and push the boundaries of what is possible with linoprinting”.
