A huge congratulations to Gaurab Thakali who has be crowned our 2014 Graduate Print Awards Winner. Gaurab’s work was a strong favourite amongst the People of Print team alongside our panel of judges too. London Graphic Centre commented that he has “an incredible colourful style which communicates atmosphere and purpose“, and we quite rightly agree. Gaurab will be receiving the first place award and our ultimate bundle of prizes. Well done and congratulations again!
We actually came across Gaurab’s work first-hand at this years Camberwell University degree show, and his work immediately stood out amongst the crowd. Using a simple restricted colour palette he brought to life the world of 52nd Street Manhattan, New York. The hub for almost every great music talent during the 30’s and 40’s congregated and performed on the street which located packed jazz clubs of the time, and became iconic for the birth of many musicians.
The atmosphere and spirit of the music and era is impossible not to feel through Gaurab’s work. The fact that these scenes where made into a 3 colour, screen printed, concertina book, makes it all the more impressive. We all love his work and hope you do too, we are sure this is just the beginning of a great career for him.
