Quiet Confidence: Boo Republic Designs Ergon Originals

posted by POP Members June 15, 2026
Thessaloniki-based branding and packaging studio Boo Republic designs a product line for Ergon Foods that translates centuries of Greek culinary heritage into contemporary packaging, drawing from traditional regional weaving and embroidery patterns and printed in bi-colour offset with blind embossing on Old Mill Avorio and Fedrigoni Arena Rough.

The brief was to reintroduce the staples of a Greek pantry to wider audiences without losing what makes them worth knowing: the provenance, the craft, the specific regions and hands behind each product. Boo Republic’s response was to find the design language that could carry all of that without overwhelming it.

The Ergon Originals range covers a breadth of Greek food and drink: extra virgin olive oil from ancient groves, unfiltered honey, mountain herbs, traditional coffees, wines, Aegean tuna fillets, sardines, artisanal spreads, handmade pappardelle, Cretan cookies and more, each product sourced from small-scale producers and artisans. The packaging design holds this diversity together through a consistent visual system: a rich dark blue type against a soft off-white ground, structured grid layouts, and golden handwritten accents that act as both a producer’s signature and a celebration of the product’s origin. Every label carries the exact geographic coordinates of where the product comes from, grounding it in place rather than mythology.

The regional specificity extends into the illustration. Traditional weaving patterns and embroidered motifs from across Greece, including Crete, the Peloponnese, Attica, the Cyclades and Ioannina, appear across the range as visual cues of heritage and origin without tipping into pastiche.

“The design carries a quiet confidence,” the studio says. “Distinctive enough to stand out, restrained enough to let the products speak for themselves.”

The balance is the achievement: the illustrations signal their sources without performing them.

Production matches the ambition. Printed in bi-colour offset with Pantone across two Greek printhouses, Thema Printing and GS Label Printing, on Old Mill Avorio and Fedrigoni Arena Rough, with blind embossing for finishing. Photography by Studio T, set design by Stavroula Foutsa.

Boo Republic is a Thessaloniki-based branding and packaging studio recognised with five Red Dot Design Awards in packaging and a Dieline Award, known for its mastery in branding, illustration and conceptual clarity.
