Late last month we bumped into POP:EYE, a sustainable experimental project based on hand-made, recycled cardboard design. It aims to explore the qualities and limits of cardboard. POP:EYE spectacles are the result of a provocative challenge and of a process which generates genuine and unique objects. Following a process of experimentation and research, every part of the product is now developed using cardboard apart from the metal screws. The result is a comfortable, extremely light frame covered with a waterproof layer and their uniqueness can be enhanced by printing on the frames graphic patterns, logos, brands, names, pictures etc.

POP:EYE spectacles come with cases produced with cellulose insole – a material particularly used in the shoe-making industry – which, as the spectacles frames, can be customised. POP:EYE also repurposes other materials discarded in the shoe-making industry, such as leather scraps. POP:EYEprojects were firstly presented to the public during the London Design Festival at Designersblock Edition 16 – Southbank Centre in September 2013.
