Satta X Deus Ex Machina: Spiritual Materialism

posted by Cara Bray October 28, 2014

Recently returning from a six week residency on island haven Bali, founder of organic clothing and handcrafted skateboarding company Satta, Joe Launder has just completed a successful stint at surf and motorbike brand Deus Ex Machina. During his time there, he worked on a collection of 60’s inspired sidewalk surfer skateboards, made from locally sourced reclaimed Teak wood. He also produced a series of artworks, presenting them in an exhibition entitled ‘Spiritual Materialism,’ which acted as an opening show for Deus’ annual Slidetober Festival. The show certainly has spirituality at its heart, exploring themes of human desire to escape the physical world, experimenting with transitioning into other realms and making sense of the unknown. With a deep rooted influence in Rastafarian culture, Satta displays an ever present and harmonious connection with nature and the environment throughout his creativity. The exhibition will run until the 28th November at Deus Ex Machina, Jalan Batu Mejahn, Bali, Indonesia.
