Dan Singer is a South London based illustrator with a passion for colour and craftsmanship. His work is predominantly print based, and he especially has a love for the art of lino cutting.

When printing Dan used to work in single layers with only black ink, but his work has evolved to incorporate the layering of multiple colours. The methodical process of overlapping colour in this way allows him to experiment with building new tones.

His image making moves between fluid, simplistic patterns, and blocky three-dimensional shapes. Whether he is printing, working in mixed media or editing a drawing in Photoshop, I love the way the finished product appears to pay homage to the aesthetic of linocuts.

Dan recently worked with pal Jack Taylor to produce a piece for Peckham Print Studio’s Field Trip project. The four-layer screen print was inspired by South London’s Horniman Museum and its vast collection of musical instruments. You’ll be happy to learn there are more print collaborations on the way from this pair soon – think larger scale and even more colourful layers!
