In 2010 Sarah Fotheringham and Maninder Singh both found themselves in Delhi. After living in Melbourne, Maninder had recently moved back to India and Sarah had left London after getting a job as an art director. Brought together and inspired by ‘a love of beautiful things and a desire to work and travel together’, homeware brand Safomasi was born in December 2013. Sarahs background as an artist and illustrator combined with Maninders previous experience in fashion and production is evident in their distinct and quirky illustrative designs. Influenced by familiar and everyday elements infused with what may seem exotic to some, their collections epitomise the stories of their travels and their eclectic prints pay homage to a host of different cultural influences.
Surrounded by the vibrancy and traditional craftsmanship of Delhi, each product is hand made and unique, many of which are hand screen printed with water based inks by local artisans. They now run their studio from a village near Panipat, Haryana (an area famous for its handloom textiles) and create 1-2 collections per year. Their aim is to depict the story of a journey in each piece and in turn each collection is based upon a different destination – their latest being Salcombe, England.
