After its huge success last year, Atomica Gallery and Things&Ink magazine have joined forces once again and are presenting their second annual collaborative exhibition of inky delight titled Miniature Ink II. The show will feature miniature original artworks from over 100 of the world’s leading international tattoo artists. With an added twist this year all the tattooers have been asked to use kewpie dolls as their canvas, which are an iconic object within the tattoo community, with each one designed and individually decorated.
The artwork is available to purchase on a first-come, first-serve basis providing the opportunity for tattoo-lovers and art-lovers alike to own an original work by some of the most sought-after names in the industry. This event is also raising awareness for Battersea Cats & Dogs Home and profits from sales will be donated to the charity – a very good cause we think!
Miniature Ink II acts as a celebration of contemporary tattoo artistry as its popularity continues to expand and establish itself as a mainstream art form, showcasing a wide variety of talented artists including Hannah Pixie Sykes, Alex Binnie, Annie Frenzel, Anthony “Civ”Civarelli, Antony Flemming, Big Sleeps, Clare Hampshire, Deno, Drew Linden, Friday Jones, Guy le Tatooer, Jody Dawber, Jondix, Keely Rutherford, Lal Hardy, Lauren Winzer, Lou Hopper, Michelle Myles, Nikole Lowe, Rachel Baldwin, Rose Hardy, Sarah Carter, Sasha Unisex, Wendy Pham, plus many more to still be announced.
About kewpie dolls:
‘Kewpies were common as illustrations, dolls and tattoo designs in the early 1900s before falling out of popularity in the 50s. With respected contemporary tattoo artists such as Mike ‘Rollo’ Malone (1942 – 2007) and Dr Lakra reviving their status, the cherub-like characters are once again in vogue as both tattoo flash and recognised artworks; decorated kewpie dolls by Mexican artist Dr Lakra have even appeared on display at Tate Britain and Somerset House.’

The launch reception for Miniature Ink is taking place on Wednesday 23 September, 6-9pm with T-shirts featuring artwork from the exhibition available to purchase, (provided by Yr Store), and blank decorate-your-own kewpie dolls. Atomica Gallery will also have a selection of limited edition prints, original artworks, ceramics and books and other hard-to-find/easy-to-love artist-made rarities available for sale, plus, complimentary drinks supplied by Sailor Jerry Rum and Huber Beer.
