Its no wonder that self-published zines are currently in the spotlight. Self-produced zines allow makers, writers, and creatives to break the rules in order to create something unconventional. Vienna-based micropublishing collective Soybot work between graphic design, print, and illustration. Their work is a departure from the traditional publishing models. It offers unique insights into the emerging, art publishing culture through an interesting mix of prints, limited edition zines, visual-based booklets, posters, and printed ephemera.
Despite small-scale production, this is a message that small is not only beautiful, but publications released in a limited print run can have an impact on the future of publishing industry. On top of that, Soybot also offer workshops from time to time. Their workshops provide a technical introduction to and overview of Risograph printing. Together with participants, they create short-run, limited-edtion zines, booklets, and/or posters.
