Vibrant in colour and bold in aesthetic, Mary Wortham, the emerging print and pattern designer hailing from Leeds, predominantly explores the combining of dynamic pattern and clashing colour combinations, resulting in her graphic fuelled yet playful compositions. Stating screen printing as her preferred medium of presentation, the infused elements of illusion, distortion and typography become more prevalent, leaving a lasting impression within the viewer’s mind and visualising a striking celebration of the potential of print.

Inspired by the contours of the urban landscape and her love of colour, these influences are referenced throughout each of her contrasting creations and further reflected through the digital process of the creation of her patterns, using distortion and typography to showcase each work in a unique graphic medium.

Mary states that the experimentation involved within the screen-printing process allows for the promotion of the tangible nature of each individual piece.

Mary Wortham recently graduated from Leeds College of Art with a BA (Hons) in Printed Textiles and Pattern Design. As of now, Mary continues her work as a pattern designer and regularly collaborates with musicians in creating posters and cover-art, therefore both expressing her abilities for a different medium but also relating to her own interests in music.
