Peter Obermoser aka PEOS is a printmaker and designer based in Vienna, known for his experimental practice in printmaking and creation of limited edition prints. Traditional techniques including woodblock print, etching and silkscreen remain central in his approach, with elements of subculture and design adapted in a vast array of materials and works. From skateboards and flasks, to ready-made visual material including banknotes, PEOS’ work blurs the line between ‘high’ and ‘low’ culture.
“For me printmaking is the perfect playground for artistic expression. I am curious about experimenting with different unusual materials and try to push them to the next level. Experiment is part of the game for me and a lot of my work could be considered a happy accident, often the results are unpredictable until the end. Each series has a different topic and approach and uses different techniques.”
Printmaking allows PEOS to be completely free in his creation; he works as a designer on a more corporate level whereas printmaking is his own creative outlet. “For me it‘s a great media to share ideas and make my graphics available for everyone. It‘s not so serious, it‘s just about doing the thing” he explains.
