Opening August 2nd in Milwaukee’s Riverwest neighborhood, River Press is a new print studio, art shop, and gallery founded by Mya Giuliani. With over 30 local artists selling work, River Press is focused on uplifting Milwaukee as a self-sustaining art community, becoming part of the mix that builds long-term successful careers for artists in the city. The studio will also offer limited analogue printing services, including letterpress, and provide those seeking printing services with a network of local printmakers.
River Press’ Micro Gallery will feature miniature solo shows rotating every 3 months from local artists. The gallery’s schedule begins with Life Should Make More Sense Than This; a multimedia print exhibition by MIAD graduate and Riverwest artist Sarah Jane Sutterfield. LSMMSTT opens August 29th, and will run through November 2025, with upcoming exhibitions from Riverwest artists David DaSilva and Margot Nielsen coming soon. River Press’ gallery opportunities will focus on Milwaukee artists who have not yet had opportunities to exhibit full bodies of work, and are not limited exclusively to printmakers.
From September 2025, River Press will present workshops and events including community dye baths, artist talks, visible mending, collage, and more. Owner Mya Giuliani will present Lego relief printing, montypes with Gelli plates, and regular social gatherings for printmakers. The shop will also be involved in citywide events, opening their historic building and making prints for Doors Open Milwaukee and participating in Milwaukee’s People’s Holiday, the Riverwest 24 bike race, as the shop sits directly on the race route. “River Press is for our neighbour’s and our neighbourhood, and the Riverwest spirit of community is fundamental to our space. Print is NOT dead!” proclaims Mya.
River Press owner, Mya, sometimes known as the wizard behind Weezard Prints, has made art in the Milwaukee community for 5 years and curates The Wizard’s Print Snacks, a series of art vending machines around the city. They co-run Wisconsin Queer Campout as art director, teaching campers to tie-dye and print their own shirts at QC’s annual summer camp fundraiser, which puts cash in the hands of individuals undergoing gender-affirming medical care. Mya has a BFA from Viterbo University and is a multimedia process-oriented printmaker and textile artist.
