Flowers That Smile Back: Ioana Boros’s The Blooms

posted by People of Print Features June 16, 2026

Romanian designer and illustrator Ioana Boros brings two collectible 3D-printed flower characters to life after five years of development, creating an edition of six each that balances geometric structure with bold, playful colour.

Ioana Boros first sketched The Blooms in 2020. It took five years to get them made. Part of that was courage. Part of it was finding the right people in Romania to work with on 3D printing, which she describes as a small and hard-to-navigate community. By the time Colour Pop and Cheer Blossom finally existed as physical objects, they had been thought about for long enough that every detail had meaning.

The two flowers are limited to six pieces each, 3D printed and carefully hand-assembled. They were made to be more than decor: small, personality-filled objects that can sit in everyday life and catch someone’s attention in an unguarded moment.

“I love mixing structure with a sense of play, so even a tiny flower can feel full of life and personality,” Boros says.

The design vocabulary she works with, geometric forms balanced with bold contrasting colour, gives each piece a quality of approachable confidence, something playful that still holds together visually.

“In a busy world, having something that can spark a smile really matters to me,” she says. “My goal is simple: I want these flowers to make people smile, even for just a moment.”

The idea that something small and considered can do that, that thoughtful design at an intimate scale has real value, runs through Boros’s practice more broadly. From the five-year patience of bringing The Blooms to life to the care of gluing each piece by hand, the work reflects a belief that objects can carry feeling if enough attention is given to them.

Ioana Boros is a fashion design graduate from the University of Arts and Design in Cluj, Romania, working as a designer and illustrator. Her practice spans pattern design, illustration and limited-edition objects.
