Reality and Imagination Collide: DADU Werkstatt and Milica’s Street Freaks Society

posted by POP Members May 20, 2026
German graffiti artist DADU Werkstatt and Manchester-based street photographer Milica merge real urban photography with illustrated geometric characters, turning static city scenes into living environments where structured reality meets playful, character-driven intervention.

The collaboration began with an open call. Street photographer Milica posted on Instagram inviting artists to fuse their vision with her urban photographs. DADU Werkstatt, a German graffiti artist based in Austria, responded, and Street Freaks Society was the result.

The core idea is a collision between two distinct ways of seeing and making. Milica’s photographs capture authentic city spaces with precision: architecture, streets, the everyday texture of real urban environments. Into those scenes DADU introduces his own graphic, geometric characters, figures rooted in a graffiti background who don’t simply inhabit the image but actively interact with it.

“DADU’s characters don’t just exist within the image,” he says. “They interact with it, leaving traces behind and turning each scene of Milica’s photographs into a living extension of my graffiti roots.”

The marks, disruptions and visual presence they leave echo the spontaneous energy of graffiti in public space while operating within a carefully considered digital composition.

The process is both intuitive and precise. Each piece begins with a photograph, which DADU then expands digitally, placing and integrating his characters with close attention to scale, composition and interaction. The figures need to feel connected to the environment while retaining their own strong, recognisable identity: geometric, expressive and slightly offbeat, reflecting the “freaks” of the project’s name.

“Street Freaks Society transforms real urban environments into spaces of imagination,” DADU says, “where structured reality meets playful, character-driven intervention.”

The word Society in the title points to the collaborative dimension, the connection between disciplines, artists and the shared creative space that emerges from that exchange.

DADU Werkstatt is a German graffiti artist based in Altheim, Austria. Milica is a street art photographer based in Manchester, UK.
