The Quiet Work of Ritual: Garden Party Magazine, Issue 03

posted by POP Members October 5, 2026

Garden Party Magazine’s third issue arrives on Wednesday 30 September, 150 pages devoted to rituals as acts of intimacy and grounding. Founded, edited and designed by Elena Fazzino, the issue brings together 19 contributors working in photography, poetry and writing, printed by Park Communications on paper by GF Smith.

The premise of Garden Party has always been the same: linger where others pass by, until the ordinary begins to reveal what care and attention have made of it. For Issue 03, editor and founder Elena Fazzino chose rituals as the thread to follow.

“As I’ve become older, I’ve realised I’m a little flustered when pulled out of my usual habitat for too long,” Fazzino says. “But because of my devotion to living a life with the intention of taking risks, I relied on the routines that ask me to show up, to help affirm myself a little bit before life comes and winds me. Getting up and opening the curtains, shuffling to the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face, making breakfast, turning lamps on in the evening — all became silent anchors for my soul to know where it began before it went somewhere it hadn’t.”

What started as a personal observation opened into a broader question. “I noticed a lot of my grounding techniques are daily habits, which I kind of think of as completing numerous sequences equating to one big ritual. I thought about how many other unspoken, undocumented, small sensations must exist in other people’s lives.”

The issue’s central story follows a bread baker through the early morning: the devotion in gestures repeated from one day to the next, the knowledge carried in hands before the day has properly started. Around it, 19 contributors including Ying Chuan Zhang, Ngan Thai Ngo, Chloe Citron, Joy Chang, Margarita Pujol Porsell, Kira Crugnale, Ella B. Winters, Ellison Smith, Harvey Carroll, Renato Milone, Klaudia Wyderkiewicz, Verdiana Bernocchi, Rae Oswald, Khaoula Hamdaoui Alaoui, Sophia Sater, Nicola Everett, Emily Krouse, Martina Melchionno and Jane Walton each bring their own rituals and routines to the page.

“I always want Garden Party to act as a sort of glossary of what it means to live a life with care and attention,” Fazzino says. “Giving each issue a theme and exploring it in the deepest, most acute ways reveals to me the ever-expanding universe that is the small, tiny, unassuming and uneventful joys of life. Choosing rituals for this issue felt like pulling a single thread from a very large tapestry.”

It took six months to bring Issue 03 from theme and open call through shoots, editing, production and print. GF Smith supported the issue with natural, uncoated paper chosen for its tactile feel and affinity with the magazine’s earthy sensibility. Park Communications, Garden Party’s trusted printer, brought accuracy and care to the finished issue with sustainability in mind.

Garden Party Magazine is devoted to the small, tender and unhurried hours of life. Each issue follows one quiet thread until the ordinary begins to reveal what care and attention have made of it.
