Finding Beauty in the Busy: Ghost Bros Photo Co’s Seeing Double

posted by People of Print Features June 22, 2026

Leith-based photographers Ghost Bros Photo Co work primarily in 35mm double exposure, building crowded, layered images drawn from protest scenes and the streets of Edinburgh that find something unexpectedly beautiful in the density of it all.

Double exposure is a technique built on collision: two separate moments brought together onto a single frame, neither one complete without the other. For Ghost Bros Photo Co, based in Leith, Edinburgh, this is not just a method but a philosophy. Their work deals in crowded imagery, deliberately seeking out the busy scene rather than the clean composition, and finding in that density something worth looking at.

Much of their photography has been taken at protests in Edinburgh, which makes the double exposure approach particularly apt. A protest is already an overlapping of bodies, voices, causes and presence: a crowd that is also a statement, a scene that resists being reduced to a single clear image. By layering two exposures onto the same 35mm frame, Ghost Bros Photo Co produce images that hold more than one moment, more than one reality, in the same space. The result is work that feels both urgent and dreamlike, grounded in specific political contexts and visually open to multiple readings.

The practice is driven by playfulness, curiosity and a belief that art should be accessible to everyone. Alongside the double exposure work, they branch into single exposure photography and other artistic mediums when inspiration leads them there. Ghost Bros Photo Co are also co-creators of Hot Butter Press, a Scotland-based print outfit, extending their interest in image-making across mediums.
