Driven by dark humour and cynical comedy is dutch Illustrator Marijike Ludwig. Conceptualising this project back in December 2015, the resolution has finally been realised in the form of 5 unique card designs with pre-written messages on the back of each one. Beautifully drawn, the images depict traditional holiday stereotypes adopting a spooky illustrative style.
The concept was inspired by etchings and engravings, with each bundle packaged in a bed of dried moss and tied with satan ribbon to help tie the narrative together. “Its fun to be a bit dark and cynical sometimes, and consider holidays from a less traditional perspective” says Ludwig. The added decorative element created through the quality of the illustrations challenge traditional styles of holiday cards, inevitably making them more personal and interesting for the receiver. The Wishing Card Dark Series website launches tomorrow on the 2nd of December 2016 where you can buy these wonderful messages! You can also find them on Ludwig’s Etsy page below.
