Night Diver Press is a San Francisco-based design/production team dedicated to dovetailing the arts of print and illustration. Pete Calderwood and Lena Gustafson are the respective printers and illustrators heading the collaboration and together their styles compliment each other to create beautifully well-rounded art objects. They started in Boston back in 2010 working on silkscreen prints, artist books, murals, and print-related media and now live and work in the Bay Area.

Their newest edition, Heavens + Humans, is a set of 5 illustrated, screen-printed, and hand-bound books. Attempting to reveal the root of symbol and metaphor they use words and imagery as tools in exploring the non-waking life. The books illustrate 5 different approaches to exposing this surreal language that permeates the unconscious. Though loose and abstract these ideas are grounded in the accessible and visual format of a book… 5 books.

Each 10″ x 15″ book has 12 pages of 2 color screen prints – meaning 60 pages per set. To showcase the beauty of these illustrations they’re printed on heavy-stock, Rives BFK printmaking paper. All of the materials used are archival. The edition is limited to 25 copies, signed and numbered, and each set is protected by a hand-bound slip case.
