London and Bristol-based nail and tooth gem artist Amerys founded Glamerys in 2024, bringing a Fashion History education and a deep awareness of cultural origins to a practice she positions within a new wave of contemporary beauty and design.
Tooth gems and nail art are having a moment, but Amerys is not interested in the moment. She is interested in what came before it. A background in Fashion History gave her both the vocabulary and the conviction to understand her practice as something with deep roots: decorative embellishment as a form of personal expression that stretches back through ancient ritual long before it became a fixture on runways and editorial shoots.
Glamerys launched in 2024, entirely self-funded and self-run. Amerys handles every aspect of the business herself, from concept and custom design through to application and aftercare, having been trained by mentors whose guidance shaped her approach to safe, hygienic and high-quality treatments. The work spans private clients who want something bold and camera-ready, editorial shoots where tiny details carry an entire look, and runway shows where the collaboration between nail artist, stylist and photographer becomes a form of visual language in miniature.
That collaborative dimension is central to how she works. “I collaborate closely with stylists and photographers to translate fashion briefs into tiny, powerful details that elevate a whole look,” she says. The tooth gem and nail art traditions she draws from have often been treated as peripheral to mainstream design practice, decorative rather than significant. Amerys’s positioning of Glamerys within contemporary beauty is a direct challenge to that assumption: embellishment, handled with craft and cultural awareness, is as serious a design practice as any other.
“I want to help redefine the beauty industry,” she says plainly.
The cultural honesty behind that ambition, acknowledging where these practices come from and who developed them, is as much a part of the work as the craftsmanship itself.
