Michael Hersrud is a graphic artist, surface designer and 2D animator. Michael is also known to dabble in experimental electronic music. He graduated with an MFA from RISD in 2006, and is currently an associate professor of graphic design at the international branch campus of VCUArts in Qatar.

Michael, originally from the US, has lived and worked in the Middle East for 10 years. This geographic location, combined with an ongoing fascination in space exploration, has shaped his interpretations of form, pattern, colour and composition to generate new visual vocabularies. Michael’s work is created using generative vector processes, and is output mostly with Giclée on speciality papers and fabrics, but also Risograph, serigraphy, pen-plotter drawing and other exploratory print techniques.
Michael states; “As an American living and working in the Middle East for 10 years, much of my inspiration comes from Arabesque forms and geometry, post-modernist architecture, and collisions of intermixed visual culture.”
