Refueled ONE Series Issue 11

posted by POP Members May 5, 2022

Publisher Chris Brown has released the eleventh issue of the Refueled ONE Series, which includes one of the silkscreen prints from his Flower Power/Deconstruction art series.

The Refueled ONE Series is a special printed magazine created to showcase ONE single subject – an artist, a photographer, a maker, a craftsman, etc. Brown saw it as a modern take on the printed paraphernalia of his youth; the faded pages and colours of LIFE magazine, the low-fi quality of comics. Wanting to capture the rebellious feel of the 60s and 70s, he chose to print it the size of old scout manuals and Stuckey’s road trip souvenir activity books.

Issue eleven features the brand TSPTR (an acronym standing for Truth, Symmetry, Pleasure, Taste and Recognition, the five design principles of Louis Sullivan, American modernist architect, designer and ‘the father of skyscrapers’).

TSPTR’s garments channel the history of 1960s and 70s American counterculture and sub cultures; exploring politics, music, protest, pop culture and war. A passion with meaning, each TSPTR garment has both great design and a great story.

TSPTR founder Russ Gator had this to say; “It’s not often you come across simpatico spirits in this increasingly social media driven dystopia, but somehow, possibly due to cosmic alignment, I crossed paths with Chris Brown. Driven by the same cultural inspirations and love for analog print based media I was immediately drawn into the Refueled world. It turns out that Chris is an old hand to the business of cultural commentary and has been there and done it, as such it was a genuine honour for TSPTR to be featured in his ONE series. Rarely does anyone truly appreciate the messages and subtleties inherent in the brand but with Chris we knew we were in safe hands, capturing our ethos perfectly within those pages.”
