London-based graphic designer and illustrator Višnja Ostojić has been building an ongoing illustrated portrait of the city since 2019, drawing pubs, streets and statues in vibrant, detailed iPad illustration that captures London as she has come to know it.
When Višnja Ostojić moved from the Netherlands to London in 2019, she did not set out to document a city. She started drawing a few local pubs. Then the lockdowns came, and the city emptied, and she found herself with time and space to explore it on foot.
“This project started as a small and very random illustration experiment entirely inspired by my move to London,” she says, “so in a way, it signifies the beginning of a new chapter.”
That personal beginning gives London Stories its warmth. The illustrations are made on an iPad, hand-drawn with attention to detail and a palette that leans into vibrancy rather than restraint, capturing the colour and character of the city’s streets, interiors and landmarks in a style that rewards close looking. What began with the pubs of one neighbourhood has expanded outward across the city, accumulating into a portrait that is both specific and cumulative, one illustration at a time.
The series has evolved to include short animations, including whimsical pieces in which London’s statues come to life and begin to move, a detail that sits naturally alongside the more architectural work and gives the project an element of playful surprise. The whole body of work is conceived as ongoing, continuing as long as Ostojić lives in the city, which means it is also still growing.
For Ostojić, illustration has long run parallel to a full-time career as a Senior Graphic Designer, developed through personal projects and online competitions in the time available alongside professional work. London Stories represents a deliberate step toward presenting that illustrative practice in its own right, with prints available in three sizes through her Etsy shop.
