Jonathan is a printmaker currently based in Guildford. Using a variety of print techniques, predominantly reduction woodcut, he explores the processes and methods of printmaking with the intention of creating hand-crafted, authentic imagery. He uses photographs as a basis for his work, and he looks to replicate these ‘perfect’ images and reproduce them using traditional printmaking methods – attempting to create a handmade, original piece from digital beginnings. “The printing processes and methods used are of high importance to the works and are of equal value to the final image produced. The image falls, changes and forms organically throughout the printing processes as the layers of the reduction woodcut build and build, growing into a unique piece by its own right, separating itself from the photograph it was once based on.”
