Laura Knoops is a French-Belgian designer based between Berlin and Paris. She holds a degree in graphic design, graduating from ÉSAAT, Roubaix. She also studied in visual communication at the ESAA Duperré and the ESAIG Estienne in Paris along with studying in Fashion and Branding at the AMFI in Amsterdam. Her varied experiences have allowed her to build herself a profile of mixing disciplines: from graphic design to video and textile.
Laura has a playground practise that is laden with extraordinary work. She utilises unusual techniques and analogue methods within a practise that are highly experimental. Part graphic designer, part video maker, she seems equally comfortable producing for textile as she is reinventing her digital aesthetic body of work in highly vibrant patterns.
Transcription(s) is an offset printing project from an artist residency realised in Le Bel Ordinaire, space of contemporary art in France. 2500 posters were each printed differently, Laura changed the parameters directly on the machine, bringing uniqueness in the colours and shapes of each object, thus questioning the whole printing process and creating prints outside the classical constraints of graphic design.
ZigZagZurich is a Swiss textile label who Laura collaborated with to create limited edition bedding. She mentioned that “the cross over from digital and video graphics to textile was a challenging print experience” for her, however as you can see her designs are a beautiful kaleidoscope of colour and computer shapes; a job well done.
