Alchemic Print

Lopez and Son PGH has officially rebranded as Alchemic Print; a screen print studio focusing on colour, shape, and magical compositions.

The studio, in its original format, started slow. In 2016, studio founder Ignacio Lopez graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Studio Arts degree, where one of his last courses was in screen printing. “It was a process I never thought about, but when I saw its usage and especially how the ink laid on paper I fell in love,” says the printmaker.

The following years involved a lot of experimental projects, playing with shape, colour, blend runs, and size, but Ignacio never had anything planned out. He was able to acquire a vacuum table, a variety of inks, and some cheap paper, and printed up to the years of Covid. That year, he was let go from his job and his family home flooded, which was also his studio. It wasn’t until 2021 that he was lucky enough to be part of the Small Arts Business Program offered by the Casey Droege Cultural Production in Pittsburgh. The program pushed him to think about what the future held for his art and practice. In the latter half of 2021, Ignacio decided to rebuild his studio and continue printing, eventually forming an Etsy store. In 2022 he sold at various art markets with lots of interest from the public.

Ignacio tells us; “The beauty in screen printing is its physical and artistic endeavor, the mistakes, and the medium of paper and ink playing with each other. Such things can go unappreciated by the public which is why in 2022 I’ve decided to focus on the fine art market. I met so many people that love my prints and wondered why I didn’t have a website.” This rebranding is the first step. He will be focusing on themes, colour, and shape, to create Alchemic magic. He concludes; “I want to bring people into the aesthetic world I love to imagine, one where the mundane is paused for a moment, and something new and never before seen takes its place”.
