Freelance lettering artist, Ollie Cooper, has released a limited edition 30 piece Risograph print series of his Kinder illustration exclusively for The London Illustration Fair (LIF) 24-26 November 2023.
The inspiration for the piece was ignited after Ollie’s niece shared her “first day at a new school” jitters before the start of the school year, which took him right back to that time and those feelings. Wanting to share an important anti-bullying message, he approached local primary schools and proposed the creation of a piece of artwork which could be painted as a mural in playgrounds. This two colour Risograph print was one of those designs, and he has chosen it to be exclusively available for the London Illustration Fair 2023.
This year will be Ollie’s first time at LIF. He tells us; “I love doing fairs where you can meet people with a genuine and shared love of art, as well as network with other artists. It also gives me a chance to display some of my passion projects outside of client work.”
Ollie works across a variety of disciplines for a range of clients including offices/workspaces, smaller independent businesses, and brands. He designs art that transforms their spaces and injects some personality, which could be a mural, signage, or branding, all of which will be bespoke to their environment and aesthetic. With the pieces he creates independently, as passion projects or other, he always uses social media to test concepts. If they get some strong and positive reactions, Ollie then turns them into a limited print series.
Inspiration for his works comes from the everyday; spotting quirks in designs in books, magazines, shop fronts, and signage, especially when travelling. “Observing typography really gets me thinking about how letterforms can work differently, looking at them from other angles and generating fresh ideas or a play on words,” says the artist. Ollie is also passionate about sustainable ways of living, and finds that often social commentaries on pop culture or current affairs drive a lot of his initial sketches.
Ollie is at The London Illustration Fair 24-26 November with live canvas painting on the 25th.
