Florida letterpress and specialty print shop M.C. Pressure launches a custom hat with a pencil sleeve sewn into the side, sourced locally in St. Augustine and available in two colourways, because the best ideas need something to write them on.
The idea behind the M.C. Pressure Thinking Cap is straightforward and slightly overdue: a hat with a loop sewn into it that holds a pencil. Every hat comes with a Blackwing pencil and fits a wide range of pencils, mechanical pencils and pens without rubber grips. The loop is snug enough that nothing falls out, easy enough that you can slide it in and out when you need it. A small solution to a genuinely common problem.
The hat blanks are 100% cotton, embroidered and customised at a local screen printing and embroidery shop in St. Augustine, with the pencil loops added by a local seamstress. The result is a collaborative, locally-made object that carries M.C. Pressure’s logo on the front and the words “Thinking Cap” on the back. It comes in two colourways: black with white thread, and an olive-brown option with a tonal thread design that is more subtle. Both work.

“At M.C. Pressure we try to have fun and push ideas that aren’t always the easiest solution,” Ryan Tempro says. “We love the uniqueness that can be created when rethinking everyday items.”
The Thinking Cap has been on the studio’s mind for a while. It took a couple of months to pull the trigger, find the right local partners and get the production process into motion. The hats are currently available on pre-order at $50, with a production run planned for the coming weeks and shipments expected at the end of June.
