Damian Idzik Idzikowski, who lives in a Lodz in Poland is an assistant at the Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts. As part of this role, he teaches students all types of graphical techniques, from traditional graphic processes as well as digital and experimental approaches to the medium.
For Idzik, graphic art is the essential form of artistic expression. In his work, he utilises graphic techniques in an independent way whilst still relying on tradition. Idzik aims to safeguard this tradition, yet recognises that there are new opportunities to expand upon it due to developments in technology.
Idzik is very aware and inspired by the complexity of the world in which we live and create; the people, places and the period. As an artist, he reacts particularly intensely to external stimuli and builds interpretations of different phenomena on the basis of his personal experiences. The subject matter of his work is based on the idea of searching for the truth of himself and a reflection on the past.
Idzik’s work is created in stages; taking their final shape after undergoing many metamorphosis and multiple workshop transformations. His attention is focused on highlighting the changes that take place throughout the creative process and development. For Idzik, the final piece does not have to have a predetermined or finite message, but instead is a record of it’s own transformations and development. Through his varied sources of inspiration and individual stages of formation, Idzik’s work portrays the notion of ambiguity and is open for interpretation.
